Boston, August 15, 2019 – Both new investment mechanisms and more advanced electronic trading practices have pressured traditional U.S. equities industry players to modernize trading operations and be more sophisticated in their e-trading capabilities. This evolution has also brought opportunities to a new set of firms, including electronic market-makers, alternative trading systems, and dark pools as well as highly sophisticated investors with complex trading strategies. But as speed and technology become that much more critical to success, other factors are beginning to resonate with profitability.

This report summarizes takeaways from the panels that were part of Aite Group’s June 2019 event, “Equities, Me, and the Fees: Market Structure in an Age of Outrage.” Attendees of the event were electronic trading industry leaders who listened to and engaged in three panel discussions. The report is also based on Q2 2019 Aite Group email and phone interviews of 15 heads of U.S. equities trading desks.

This 21-page Impact Report contains three figures and three tables. Clients of Aite Group’s Institutional Securities & Investments service can download this report, the corresponding charts, and the Executive Impact Deck.
