The U.S. medical bill landscape has not shifted radically in scope from previous years, as electronic bill experiences, automated digital payments with a wide range of options, and an increased focus on the security of payment data continue to dominate overarching market trends. What has changed dramatically is the volume and value. While the COVID-19 pandemic created a dip in the market, there has been a strong recovery.
Previous iterations of this report focused on a four-pronged approach to medical bills: bill payment channels, methods, frequencies, and bill delivery. This updated report continues this established track but with an added focus on payment trends within a digitally enabled medical bill ecosystem. It is based on a Q1 2023 Datos Insights survey of 3,025 U.S. consumers who have paid a household bill.
