2020 Impact Innovation Award in Digital Wallets: Airtel Money Uganda

Airtel Money Uganda is the winner of the 2020 Aite Group Impact Innovation Award in Digital Wallets for market adoption.

Boston, September 15, 2020 – Ugandans clearly needed a way to conduct their everyday business without having to rely on cash transactions, and mobile phone technology was available to create a digital payments platform. The challenge was not just to create a payments platform but instead to build a complete payments ecosystem that could support every aspect of the Ugandan economy. Airtel Money Uganda achieved this objective and has created a comprehensive payments ecosystem for Uganda.
