Supplier Changes by Top Retailers Shake Up Global POS Software Market

The world’s largest retail and hospitality firms are supplied by an ever-growing number of point-of-sale software providers

Competition intensifies in key regions as vendors vie for new business

The latest Global POS Software research by Datos Insights reveals an increasingly competitive market, with more than 440,000 new POS installations in the year to June 2025, of which one third were due to changes of supplier.

Activity skyrocketed in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, with retail giants Shoprite and Landmark Group rolling out new solutions, while North America saw deployments surge owing to rollouts by Dollar General and Burger King. As such, most of the market growth in these regions was driven by changes in POS software supplier as opposed to additional touchpoints in existing or new stores.

Deployments accelerated in Europe as leading grocery retailers such as Lidl continued to expand their store networks and roll out self-checkout solutions.

GK Software is the largest supplier of new POS software installations

GK Software moved into first place for new POS deployments in the year to June 2025, accounting for 10% of the market globally. The firm, which became a Fujitsu subsidiary in May 2025, has a strong presence in MEA and Europe with key clients including grocery retailers Shoprite and Lidl.

NCR Voyix is second with a market share of 8%, supplying major US convenience chains and growing international fast-food firms, and has the largest global installed base for POS software. Toshiba jumped up the rankings into third, leading the grocery sector in Latin America.

Rounding out the top five are Flooid and Oracle – with the former completing a rollout at a prominent retailer in the USA, and the latter counting global fashion and hospitality chains among its clients.

Independent software firms are mounting a challenge to established players

While many tier 1 retailers maintain strong ties with established suppliers, independent software vendors (ISVs) are making inroads. The UK’s Enactor, which ranks sixth for new POS deployments globally, supplies retailers in a range of countries from El Palacio de Hierro in Mexico to Central Group in Thailand.

China’s DMALL and Aptos-owned LS Retail each implemented major software projects in the Asian convenience sector, while the USA’s Jumpmind rolled out at Bath & Body Works in North America and Landmark Group in MEA.

In Europe, France’s ChapsRetail and Dutch firm Mews supply major supermarket and hotel chain clients respectively.

Competition for new business is only set to intensify

Nearly 2.3 million new POS software installations are forecast globally over the next five years, with new store openings and the deployment of self-service terminals set to fuel growth, especially in emerging markets.

In more developed regions like North America and Europe, changes of supplier are expected to represent a key growth driver, as retail and hospitality firms seek solutions to support both evolving customer expectations and operational requirements.
